College Admission Test FAQ
- Why should I take the SAT?
You should take the SAT because it is a required standardized test that universities look at when considering your application.
- What is the SAT perfect score?
The SAT perfect score is 2400
- How many times can I take the
SAT?
There is no score choice and all the test results will be shown on the ETS transcript. You should always be well prepared for any test. It is beneficial to allow enough time for improvement between tests.
- What is “score choice”?
Score choice is the option for students to choose not to disclose certain test scores on their ETS transcript. However, this option is no longer available to students.
- Can I take the SAT for fun?
Yes, but the “fun” score will also appear on the ETS transcript. It is highly recommended that you not register for a test before you are ready to take it.
- Are my scores averaged if I take
the SAT more than once?
The College Board does not average your scores if you take the test multiple times.
- What are the differences between
the SAT and the ACT?
ACT is another college entrance examination that tests on what the student has learned in school. SAT is more geared as an aptitude test and measures a student’s reasoning ability. The ACT is not provided by the College Board. Most universities on the west coast do not require the ACT as an entry-level test for admission.
- Why should I take the PSAT before
the SAT?
The PSAT is a test designed to give you a preview of what the SAT entails. The PSAT test score in your sophomore year will determine if you are eligible to apply for the National Merit Scholarship. It is not mandatory that you take the PSAT before you take the SAT, but if you are interested in Ivy League schools, the PSAT is an important step in the application process.
- I’m a newly immigrated student:
do I need to take the SAT as well?
Colleges require that all applicants take an entrance examination. Depending on how long you’ve been in United States, you may have to take additional tests. It is best to find out what is required by contacting the colleges directly. ACI will be able to help your child determine their academic competence.
- Are some SAT tests easier than
others?
Each SAT test is designed to meet the requirements set by the College Board. The rumor that taking the test on a certain date is easier is entirely false.
- How long should it take to prep
for the SAT?
Prep time for each student varies; there is no definite set amount of time for prepping the SAT. ACI counselors can help each student in determining an organized timeline to prepare for the SAT.
- Are there scholarships
opportunities if I do well on the PSAT?
There is the National Merit Scholarship if you did extremely well on the PSAT.
- When is the earliest I can take
the SAT?
The College Board does not restrict when you can take the SAT. However, universities will only consider the scores from tests you took while in high school.
- What are the differences between
SAT Reasoning tests and SAT subject tests?
SAT is a general reasoning test that the College Board offers. SAT subjects tests are offered to test a student’s aptitude in specific areas such as math, science, history, or language.
- What is more important: GPA, SAT,
or AP classes?
GPA, SAT, and AP classes are all extremely important for college preparation. You should put equal emphasis on all three. Colleges look for potential students who will most likely succeed in their academic careers and future.
